Bristol International Festival of Kites 2009
This arena features a continuous array of colourful display kites of all shapes and sizes flown by guest flyers and designers from around the world. A constantly changing backdrop of colour in the sky, the chance to admire the artistry, craftsmanship and design of these kites and banners close to on the ground and to talk to the designers and makers about their work. There were 30 metre long multi-coloured manta ray, a gaggle of geckos, swirling octopi, a flying scuba diver, a giant mermaid and Roly the mega killer whale, kite-propelled buggies and land boards, synchronised routines choreographed to music, Indian fighter kites, flying angels, spirits and devils and even jogging legs kites, intricate hand-stitched designs, flying stained glass windows, Japanese fighting kites, ground-based air creations, larger-than-life inflatable creatures and free children s kite-making workshops.
